Discover Columbus Eyeworks...

PRESS[October 2000] - With the new neon sign in place, the transformation of the old Caravan Bar into Columbus Eyeworks is complete. The Columbus Eyeworks sign, which replicates the unique shape of the original circa 1953 Caravan Bar sign, was hoisted and anchored late in September.

The renovations to the interior of the building are a welcome addition to the Garden District of the Short North. The hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, free-floating displays, clean architectural lines, and unique German lighting create the illusion of a Manhattan optique.

Eyewear featured originates from Denmark, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and the Far East as well as soho and California. Columbus Eyeworks is located at 4th Avenue & High. The staff is attentive, yet the atmosphere is relaxed. Call 614.421.2020 or stop by to get more information or schedule an appointment.

Jazz Up Your Eyewear

Byron Stripling is the conductor of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) is America's oldest not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to producing, performing and promoting jazz and is headquartered right here in the Short North Arts District at 939 N. High Street. JAG is the third largest performing arts organization in Columbus and consists of four focus areas: the Columbus Jazz Orchestra (CJO), one of the world's finest professional jazz orchestras; Jazz on the Avenue, our small group series; Musician Services, providing employment opportunities for professional musicians; and JAG's extensive Education Programs, educating both students and adults about jazz and American music.

The Columbus Jazz Orchestra (CJO) presents over forty concerts each season at the historic Southern Theatre in two performance series: Swingin' At The Southern and The Great American Songbook. The 2100 subscribers for the two concert series makes the CJO audience the largest subscription base for any jazz orchestra series in the United States. The CJO now also performs an outdoor summer concert series, JazZoo, at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

The Jazz Arts Group also presents Jazz on the Avenue, in collaboration with the King Arts Complex, featuring small group jazz ensembles and world-class guest artists in an intimate setting.

Through a variety of education and outreach programs, JAG makes a significant impact on thousands of people each year, young and old alike, providing the opportunity to experience America's indigenous art form - jazz. Youth jazz ensembles, in-school performances, professional development for educators, internships for young people, master classes with world-renowned musicians and the new Jazz Academy initiative are just a few of the ways the Jazz Arts Group is making a difference through music.

Please feel free to stop by their offices in the Short North at 939 North High Street to purchase tickets, or visit them on the web to purchase tickets or make a contribution at www.jazzartsgroup.org!
